House and porch washing in Canton, GA

Canton, GA

What we found and what we did

Soft-washed the exterior of a house in Canton, GA, covering the siding, window trim, and a covered front porch with railings, columns, deck boards, and ceiling. The job ran about an hour on site.

The porch was the dirtiest part. Before shots show algae working into the deck boards, grime built up on the column bases and railing caps, and the kind of mildew streaking on the soffit and ceiling that shaded porches pick up here in the Georgia humidity. Siding on the upper stories had pollen and general road dust layered on, and the window frames and sidelights around the front entry had the chalky oxidation film that shows up on trim that doesn't get much direct sun.

We ran a low-pressure soft-wash mix on the siding and trim, sodium-hypochlorite with surfactant applied bottom-up so the chemistry didn't streak down dry siding below the work area. The porch surfaces got the same approach but with a slightly heavier dwell on the deck boards where the algae had set in. Columns, railing caps, and the porch ceiling got a full rinse pass after dwell to clear the organic growth without leaving residue in the corners.

After shots show the porch deck boards clean and the columns back to their original finish, the soffit and eave clear, and the front and side siding looking uniform top to bottom. The window frames and sidelights cleaned up well too, which makes a bigger difference on curb appeal than most homeowners expect.

Canton sits in a humid corridor where north-facing porch surfaces and shaded siding can show new algae growth within a season or two. A soft-wash treatment every year or two keeps it from setting in deep enough to stain the substrate.
